WebSocket Support for HiveMQ Cloud Basic
Easy to get started, simple to follow guides, and MQTT for everyone are the main themes for our HiveMQ Cloud Basic offering that we had released in March 2021. The resonance has been tremendous so far and thousands of people and companies have carried out their IoT projects with HiveMQ Cloud.
Since the release, many HiveMQ Cloud users have urged us to add WebSocket support to HiveMQ Cloud Basic. With WebSocket support enabled any browser can be used as an MQTT client. That makes it even easier to use MQTT. We’ve taken this feedback to heart and are thrilled to announce that HiveMQ Cloud Basic now supports WebSockets straight out of the box.
In addition to the existing TCP option, HiveMQ Cloud Basic now supports MQTT over WebSocket on port 8884. Please note that we only offer secure communication via SSL, so you need to ensure that your MQTT clients use SSL as well. Our guides will help you to get started with MQTT over websockets easily.
We also enriched our public WebSocket Client with SSL support. This new feature makes it even more effortless to get going with MQTT. Just create a HiveMQ Cloud Basic cluster for free and test the connection using our public WebSocket client. The graphical view of the public WebSocket client lets you explore and experiment with all MQTT functionality. Our in-app getting started guide walks you through this step by step.
