New REST API Host for HiveMQ Cloud Starter

4 min read

We’re excited to introduce an update designed to bring you a more reliable, secure, and scalable HiveMQ Cloud experience. As part of this enhancement, we’re launching a new domain for the HiveMQ Cloud Starter API.

This change lays the groundwork for faster feature rollouts, increased reliability, and improved security for our users.

What’s Changing in HiveMQ Cloud Starter API?

Starting Wednesday, May 7, our HiveMQ Cloud Starter API will be available under a new domain: api.hivemq.cloud

Both the old and new domains will remain operational in parallel. All new API endpoints and features going forward will be available only under the new domain.

While no immediate action is required, switching to the new domain will ensure you're fully aligned with future updates and improvements.

Does This Affect My Setup?

In most cases, your setup will continue to function without changes. However, we recommend the following actions to ensure a smooth migration:

  • Update any hardcoded API URLs in your integrations to use api.hivemq.cloud.

  • Check any hostname whitelisting, firewall rules, or infrastructure policies that may restrict access to new domains.

  • If you use CI/CD or deployment pipelines, ensure they reflect the new domain.

There are no changes to SSL/TLS certificates, and no impact on MQTT connections, data flow, or operational behavior.

Migration Timeline

  • May 7, 2025: The new domain goes live and becomes the default in documentation and the Cloud Console.

  • Future deprecation: The old domain will remain available indefinitely for now. If we decide to retire it, we will provide sufficient advance notice to allow for a smooth and planned migration.

What You Need to Do

You do not need to do anything urgently. We, however, suggest the following measures to be ready for the future:

  1. Begin using https://api.hivemq.cloud in all new and existing integrations.

  2. Update internal tooling and scripts that call the old host.

  3. Bookmark our REST API documentation (unchanged aside from the host).

  4. Reach out to Support for help if needed.

Questions?

Our team is ready to assist you if you have any questions or need support.

Thank you for being part of the HiveMQ Cloud community—we look forward to continuing to enhance your experience!
