HiveMQ Cloud Integrates Confluent Cloud and Aiven Kafka Services

We recently introduced our Kafka to HiveMQ Cloud integration and walked you through the key capabilities. Today we are happy to announce two more HiveMQ Cloud integrations for Kafka services: Confluent Cloud and Aiven. With these additions, you get a simple and straightforward way to configure data streaming between HiveMQ Cloud and the Kafka service of your choice in the Free and PAYG tiers.

HiveMQ Cloud integration with Confluent Cloud and Aiven Kafka services

Currently, there are multiple providers in the market offering a fully managed Kafka service. Some provide basic Kafka functionality hosted in the Cloud, while others offer additional features to add value. At HiveMQ, we find that many customers make a company-wide decision to use a specific Kafka service provider, and our integrations are fine tuned to get you started integrating your IoT data rapidly. 

Confluent Cloud

Confluent Cloud offers a fully-managed, cloud-native implementation of Kafka. It provides additional features and tools to simplify the management and operation of Kafka clusters. It supports tools for developer productivity, integrations for monitoring and alerts, and comes with production-ready capabilities. 

Setting up the Confluent Cloud integration

Setting up the Confluent Cloud is very similar to the Apache Kafka integration. Some key things to keep in mind for configuring are:

• You do not need to select a SASL mechanism. All related settings are done automatically for you. 

• The mapped topic is sent with QoS 0 by default and with a max throughput of 250 MB/sec.

Aiven for Apache Kafka

Aiven offers fully-managed services for open source technologies like Apache Kafka. Aiven for Apache Kafka offers additional values like data replication across clusters, availability zones or clouds as well as an interface between Apache Kafka and the rest of your data architecture.   

Setting up the Aiven Kafka integration

Setting up the Aiven Kafka integration is also similar to the Apache Kafka integration. Some key things to keep in mind for configuring are:

• Next to the username/password credentials you need to provide an additional Aiven certificate authority file to connect the HiveMQ Cloud broker securely to your Kafka Cluster. You can download this file through the Aiven web console.

• The mapped topic is sent with QoS 0 by default and with a max throughput of 250 MB/sec.
